Minimally invasive surgery to treat kidney cancer that also spares the kidney has become increasingly popular as surgeon expertise has increased and as this approach has demonstrated excellent long-term outcomes in terms of cancer control and kidney function. This report by surgeons from the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, on their technique concludes that partial nephrectomy (kidney-sparing surgery) performed using the da Vinci System is safe and feasible for select patients with complex kidney tumors.
