da Vinci® Nissen Fundoplication

da Vinci Nissen Fundoplication is a minimally invasive surgical treatment for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) — widely known as acid reflux or chronic heartburn. While the current standard of care for GERD is drug therapy, persistent and/or severe cases may require surgery to relieve symptoms. Antireflux surgery, including the Nissen Fundoplication, is well-established as an effective and durable therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease and its complications.

The da Vinci Nissen Fundoplication, the surgeon wraps a portion of the stomach, known as the gastric fundus, around the lower esophageal sphincter, creating a mechanical barrier designed to prevent the flow of acid into the esophagus.

Advantages of the da Vinci Nissen Fundoplication for the surgeon include superb visualization of esophagogastric anatomy, enhanced dexterity for complex re-do operations and increased control for precise crural and fundoplication stitches made through a minimal incision.

Benefit Summary

  • Enables superb visualization of esophagogastric anatomy
  • Enhances dexterity for complex re-do operations
  • Allows increased precision for crural and fundoplication stitches
