Gynecologic Applications

The da Vinci® System's intuitive interface provides breakthrough capabilities, allowing more gynecologic surgeons to use a minimally invasive approach in complex procedures.

Initial studies suggest that the enhanced visualization, dexterity, precision and control offered by the da Vinci® System can enable gynecologic surgeons to more easily perform complex, minimally invasive procedures and potentially achieve better clinical outcomes than with conventional laparoscopic surgery.1, 2

Intuitive Surgical is shaping the future of gynecologic surgery with the da Vinci Hysterectomy, da Vinci Myomectomy and da Vinci Sacrocolpopexy. Performed with the da Vinci Surgical System, these procedures represent the most advanced minimally invasive approach to gynecologic surgery.

For most patients, minimally invasive procedures performed with the da Vinci Surgical System can offer numerous potential benefits over open surgery, including:

  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less pain and scarring
  • Less risk of infection
  • Less blood loss and fewer transfusions
  • Faster recovery
  • Quicker return to normal activities.

da Vinci Surgical System
Representative Gynecologic Applications

da Vinci Myomectomy

  • Enables precise, three-layer suture reconstruction of the uterus
  • Enhances capabilities for meticulous dissection and enucleation of large myomas
  • Provides superior visualization of tissue planes

da Vinci Hysterectomy

  • Offers enhanced dexterity critical for complex hysterectomies - e.g. endometrial cancer and endometriosis
  • Provides superb visualization for dissection around ureters and bladder, more precise colpotomy, easier vaginal cuff suture-closure.

da Vinci Sacrocolpopexy

  • Improved access to the pelvis compared to open and conventional laparoscopic approaches
  • Easier, more precise rectovaginal and presacral dissections
  • Improved handling of suture and mesh for more accurate graft placement and attachment
  • Easier, quicker and more precise suturing for:
    • Attaching the graft to the anterior and posterior vaginal walls and the sacrum
    • Retroperitonealizing the graft
  • Control of the camera and all three operative arms for the ultimate in surgical autonomy, precision and efficiency
  • A minimally invasive surgical approach to sacrocolpopexy, the gold standard procedure for severe uterine or vaginal vault prolapse3
  • A reproducible approach that restores open surgical principles to laparoscopic surgery, which is both easier to learn, perform and teach compared to conventional laparoscopy
