Training Overview*

da Vinci^® Surgical System training and support are essential to establishing a successful surgical robotics program. The primary purpose of Intuitive Surgical training is to develop a surgical team’s confidence and competence in the use of the da Vinci^® Surgical System. The ultimate goal is to develop a self-sufficient surgical team capable of performing da Vinci procedures with minimal product support and instruction.

In order to meet this goal, Intuitive Surgical works with experienced, independent faculty who have extensive knowledge of robotic-assisted, minimally invasive surgery. Experienced faculty conduct didactic and laboratory sessions that teach specialized pre-, intra- and post- operative techniques unique to the use of the da Vinci Surgical System. In-depth, hands-on segments enable participants to practice learned techniques.

The hospital/surgeon purchases the proctoring service as part of training they have independently determined to be part of their credentialing requirement; Intuitive Surgical’s role is merely to coordinate between the hospital/surgeon and the proctor. The proctors and the hospital/surgeon are always free to negotiate with each other directly.
